The ASA is thrilled to publish a new resource for authors across all genres looking for advice on how to pitch their project to agents and publishers. Written by experienced book publishing professional, Clare Forster, Pitching your project: A guide to submitting to publishers and agents is a comprehensive resource that authors can use to navigate every step of the submission process.
It can be difficult to know where to start when you’re asked to condense years of work creating a book into just a few short paragraphs in a query letter, but this guide outlines what you can do to give your project the best chance of success.
Topics covered include:
The guide covers the different requirements across fiction, non-fiction, and children’s and YA pitches, to account for variances in genre. It also includes an example synopsis and query letter, and several sample blurbs.
Pitching your project is accessible via the Resources section of our website. It is available at a discounted rate for ASA members – you must be logged in to access your member discount.
This guide is the latest addition to the ASA’s suite of resources centred around pitching and submission. To learn more, you can read about our Pitch Perfect courses and take up an opportunity to pitch at our flagship Virtual Literary Speed Dating program. Advice on submissions can also be found in our FAQs, and if you’d like to learn more about the book publishing process, have a look through our series of Behind the Book articles. Finally, don’t forget to subscribe to our fortnightly News from the ASA newsletter, where we regularly share information and opportunities for creators.
