Work with us: Manuscript Assessors

The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) is the peak national body for Australian writers and illustrators. We offer expert advice, provide professional development opportunities, nurture meaningful connections and advocate on behalf of creators for fair contracts, robust copyright protections, and real remuneration.

Expert assessors needed

The ASA is seeking new assessors to join the register of industry experts for our popular Manuscript Assessment service.

We are specifically seeking published writers who work in literary fiction, commercial fiction, historical fiction, genre fiction (romance, sci-fi/fantasy, and crime), and non-fiction. They must have previous experience with writing manuscript assessment reports or similar evaluation documents. Experience with pre-publication award judging is also desirable.

We are additionally interested in hearing from editors with formal editorial training and 5 to 10 years of professional editing experience in the above mentioned genres.

We also welcome expressions of interest from writers who work in YA and children’s fiction, though we are not actively pursuing assessors in these categories at this point in time.

How to apply

If you would like to submit an expression of interest in joining the ASA’s manuscript assessor register, please download the application form and submit your completed application to [email protected].

The ASA is committed to creating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable industry, and welcomes expressions of interest from people with diverse backgrounds and experience, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons.
