Not everyone is a ‘planner’ when writing their first draft, but all writers, including self-proclaimed ‘pantsers’, can benefit from mapping their story to take it to the next level of development. The more you understand what you need to do in the next draft, and what needs to happen at chapter and scene level, the fewer drafts you will need to write. In this one-hour workshop, structural editor Dr Laurel Cohn will explore how creating a map or outline of your story can allow you to see the big picture of your work in a way that will maximise the gains in subsequent drafts. You will learn:
Whether you’re seeking guidance on planning a story before it’s written, finding a way forward with an incomplete draft, or solving problems in a complete draft, this workshop will introduce you to a range of mapping techniques and show you how other writers successfully employ these techniques so you can apply them to your own practice. There will be time for questions from the audience.
No problem! Everyone booked in to this event will be emailed a link and passcode to access the recording afterwards. This recording will be available to view for 10 days after the live session. This also means that if you wish to revisit the session after attending it live to take further notes, you can do so!
After 10 days, the link will expire and the recording will no longer be available to view.
