More than ever, authors are expected to assist in the promotion of their books, but knowing what to do and how can be unclear.
Authors Anne Buist and Graeme Simsion have taken author promotion to a whole new level after spending the last six months traveling all over the country with the aim to visit every Australian bookshop, meeting booksellers and customers, signing books, giving talks and running writing seminars along the way — all in promotion of their recent joint novel.
Their Great Australian Bookshop Tour is an extreme, unique and very fun example of what an author can do to promote themselves and their work, and there are plenty of lessons to be learned from their experience that have immediate, practical applications for authors at any stage of their career.
