Help us review our rates of pay for school appearances

Are you an author or illustrator who has conducted a paid appearance at a school in the last two years? Contribute to our review of the ASA’s School Appearances Rates of Pay by sharing your experiences and the rates you’ve been paid in 2024-25. Your feedback is crucial to help us advocate for fair pay and set minimum recommended rates for creators.

As part of the ASA’s core services, we develop minimum recommended rates of pay to provide benchmarks and guidelines for authors and illustrators, and their employers. Now more than ever, with perilously low creator income and the emergence of generative AI, it is essential to protect the rights of creators and ensure they are paid appropriately.

We are currently conducting a review of our School Appearances Rates of Pay, which include the fees paid to authors and illustrators for primary and secondary school appearances (e.g. talks, presentations, and workshops). We will be seeking feedback from authors, illustrators, schools, booking agencies and other organisations associated with school appearances.

All responses are confidential and will not be published or shared. The data you provide will be collated on an aggregated basis so the ASA can understand trends and averages.

Please provide feedback if you can by 6 February 2026. We encourage all thoughts and feedback, so please take advantage of the open text fields in the form.

If you have any questions about the review or our rates of pay, please contact us at [email protected] or phone 02 9211 1004 during business hours
