Position title: Administration Assistant

Location: Ultimo, Sydney NSW

Salary guide: $68,000 p.a. pro rata + statutory superannuation

Work type: Part-time (3-4 days a week, negotiable), 3-year contract

About the ASA

The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) is the peak national body for Australian writers and
illustrators. We offer expert advice, provide professional development opportunities, nurture
meaningful connections and advocate on behalf of creators for fair contracts, robust
copyright protections, and real remuneration.

About the role

Do you want to learn about the book industry while helping Australian authors and illustrators pursue sustainable creative careers? We’re seeking an enthusiastic, organised, and detail- oriented person to join our team.

This newly created role reports to the CEO, and will be responsible for helping the ASA deliver services, events, and opportunities to our members.

Key duties for this member-facing role include:

  • Assisting with professional development programming, communications, awards, and membership administration
  • Supporting the team to respond to member enquiries over the phone and via email
  • Consulting with authors, illustrators, literary organisations, and key stakeholders on
    industry rates of pay
  • Coordinating the development of resources for authors and illustrators

About you

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, and the ability to multitask
  • Attention to detail
  • A customer service mentality
  • Experience in the arts or non-profit sector is desirable, but not essential.
